Poddar Chhatra Niwas (PCN) is a boys hostel located in the heart of Kolkata at 150,Chittaranjan Avenue,Kolkata-700007 As per the ‘Will’ of Late Gajanand poddar, in the year 1931,a land was purchased to build the hostel and in 1935 Poddar Chhatra Niwas was built with public money. The founder trustees were Late Dayaram Poddar,Late Hiralal Murarka,Late Nagarmull goenka and Late Sawalram Goenka. The hostel was earlier known as”Marwari Chhatra Niwas” and was running at a rented premises at Tara Chand Dutta Street,Kolkata. Since inception,the hostel is managed by a Managing Committee appointed by the trustees of Poddar Chhatra Niwas trust. The hostel admits students of class 11to PG those pursuing higher studies i.e. Chartered Accountancy, company secretaryship,cost accountancy,Engineering,Medical etc and many other professional courses from the renowned institutes and colleges at Kolkata. We are a close-knit family of128 students residing in 34 rooms who lend it its holistic identity. Most of our ex-boarders are working at top position in best of the corporate house not only in india but abroad also. Those who are in profession or business are doing excellent in their fields. Actually, it is the aspirations that are imbedded during the hostel days which reap results later in life.Being sworn at top positions or earning fame by self employment or holding bureaucratic positions, poddarians have constantly proved themselves.

PCN has earned lots of respect and every student who comes to Kolkata for study has a dream to get admission in PCN hostel. It is said that “it is easier to get admission in St. Xavier’s College,but geting admission in PCN is most difficult task”.

Rightfully referred to as the “CA FACTORY” by many a soul,naturally it has gained reverence for the feat of ‘producing’ quality CA’s ;given the passion and grit with which students here approach this goal. What lends PCN its uniqueness is the equal relevance that boys pay to the fun of their growing adolescent days. There is absolutely no compromise on that front and these are the memories boys reminisce long after they are gone.

Adhering to he words of John Wooden :”sports do not build character. They reveal it”,We at Poddar Chhatra Niwas play tournaments for games like Cricket, Volleyball, Table Tennis,Badminton&Darts to name a few which not only gives us a platform to show our creativity and attitude but also keeps us full-blooded. There is a gymnasium facility in the hostel to ensure proper physique for the boys.Saraswati Puja is a landmark event in the hostel and the excitement and the devotion with which the pandal and the entire puja is organised every year is worthy of mention. The fresher ‘s batch organises an event every year to mark their entry into the hostel known commonly by ‘fresher’s welcome’ by now, it is vividly evident that atPCN the all-round development of boys is encouraged.

There are many renowned names, who have brought glory to their alma mater(only to name a few)and PCN is no less than one. Living by our Motto-“Excellence is not a skill,it’s an attitude”, all students are nurtured in an environment that allows them to excel, leaving no place for mediocrity. Every student-having undergone the life of a poddarian-learns lessons for life that guide him at every roadblock in life leaving him to realize that he has cherished each moment lived within the walls ofPODDAR CHHATRA NIWAS .

Poddar Chhatra Niwas (PCN) Alumni Association (PCNAA)

Poddar Chhatra Niwas has a long history of more than 8 decades. The alumni of this prestigious institution have been great leaders, judges, Doctors, CEO, CFO, Professionals, Corporate Czars etc. All over the world. A need was always felt to have a platform for bringing all the Ex-Boards under one roof for their continuous interaction and bondage and enabling them to contribute towards the development of education & society. Hence the Association have been formed with objects contained in the memorandum of the Association and are available on its website. Several attempts were made in the past to “Poddar Chhatra Niwas Alumni Association” (PCNAA) which is registered on 6th May 2015 under the West Bengal Societies Registration Act XXVI of 1961 vide Registration No. 36182 of 2015-2016.

The Association was allotted Permanent Account No. (Pan) AADAP4193R and a Bank Account No.694601700275 with ICIC bank for the day to day transactions was opened. Association is eligible for deduction u/s 80G (5) (vi) of Income Act, 1961 and the said approval is valid w.e.f. 05.11.2015 in perpetuity vide Certificate No CITE(E)/ 10E/ 502/ 2015-16/ G-0317/ 4066-68 dated 01.03.2016.

The present strength of the Association in the very first year has already crossed 270.
