MEPCO was established in collaboration with Metal Powder Company, Thirumangalam and Schlenk, who is the German collaborator of the company. The Institution was formed with the efforts of a social welfare organisation, Mepco Schlenk Charities. Mepco Schlenk Engineering College was earlier affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai but the affiliation later got changed to Anna University, Chennai from 2001.
