Set up by the Ministry of Human Resource Department, Government of India, in the year 2008, the Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar (or IIT Ropar) is one of the eight new IITs set up to expand the reach of quality technical education in the country. The institute is ranked 19th and 49th as per the NIRF Ranking 2021 for Engineering and research categories respectively. Situated in Rupnagar in the state of Punjab, the institute offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes in various specialisations along with five-year integrated dual degrees.  

IIT Ropar educators, staff, and administrators is a growing community of carefully chosen faculty with excellent teaching, administration, and research skills. They offer their expertise in seven streams for the B.Tech degree in engineering, M.Sc. in three streams, MS in two M.Tech in 11 streams, 21 part-time and full-time PhD programmes, and a dual degree of B.Tech and M.Tech in Mechanical engineering.

Moreover, the Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar houses eight academic departments dedicated to different branches of Science and Technology. IIT Ropar also has a strong collaboration with national and international institutions, namely Aston University UK, Imperial College of London, Simon Fraser University of Canada, and the University of Glasgow Scotland in the UK. The various collaborations enable the institute to invite experts from the industry, academia, and clinical community to organise numerous talks and symposiums. In this way, IIT Ropar works tirelessly towards following its motto of deploying intellect on the right path.
