The foundation stone for the Indian Institute of Technology, Mandi was laid on 24th February 2009. The institute is situated in Kamand Valley in Himachal Pradesh. IIT Mandi ranked 41st in the engineering category and 82nd in the overall category in NIRF 2021 Rankings. To drive the developmental activities for IIT Mandi, a distinct IIT Mandi Cell was established in IIT Roorkee in March 2009. The issues pertaining to campus development were highlighted in a project report which was submitted to the Government of Himachal Pradesh in the month of April in that very year. In later months, the institute was registered as a society in the state of Uttarakhand. Further development plans were made for the institute under the Ministry of Education. Today the institute has developed to include courses from disciplines of science, technology to arts.
