IIT Delhi was established in the year 1961. Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi was declared as an Institution of National Importance under the 'Institutes of Technology (Amendment) Act, in 1963 and in the same year, they were granted the status of Deemed University. Indian Institute of Technology Delhi has secured 5th position with an overall score of 72.15/100 by NIRF in 2021 in the management category. The institute has retained its place in the second position in the engineering category in NIRF 2021 Ranking. The institute has secured 4th rank in NIRF 2021 overall ranking and ranked 4th in the research category.  The institute had secured 3rd rank in NIRF 2020 overall ranking.  

IIT Delhi has a campus of 320 acres and includes amenities like a shopping centre, hospital, stadiums, bank, post offices, etc. Currently, the Institute has 17 Centers of Excellence in which four are built by IIT Delhi, five are backed by sponsored projects, and eight are industry-sponsored. Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi offers courses in B.Tech, M.Tech, M.Sc, M.Sc, Ph.D, and M.Des. IIT Delhi has a provision of a Dual Degree and an Integrated course (B.Tech and M.Tech) for the undergraduate programme.

IIT Delhi is recognised as the No. 1 institute of India. The institute provides vast exposure to its students through its course programmes and extra-curricular programmes. The course curriculum at IIT Delhi is wide knowledge-based and designed to train the students in the process of learning and training.
