The Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani is a leading institute for higher education and a deemed university (Sec. 3 of the UGC Act.). The BITS Pilani campus at Rajasthan was set up with MIT (USA) collaboration and deemed to be a university later in the year 1964.  The institute is ranked 26th in the NIRF 2021 ranking for the engineering category, 17th in the university category, 36th in the research category and 29th in the overall category. The institute has been ranked 3rd in the pharmacy category in the NIRF rankings of 2021. The campus is spread over a sprawling 328 acres. It is a self-contained campus that houses all amenities and buildings to a standard of an international institute. BITS Pilani offers programmes in multiple disciplines and most of them are fully residential. There are about 11 hostels for boys and 1 hostel for girl students. At any given time, the institute houses 4500 students on campus along with 350 faculty members and staff, along with families. BITS Pilani consists of a substantial library complex that has a floor area of 65,000 sq. ft. The library has a collection of around 2,30,000 volumes of books and other material for study and references.

Situated in Pilani, Rajasthan, the campus of BITS institute has research facilities that are of a wide range. With a number of laboratories, and computers centers, it is focussed on aspects of advanced science and technology in the current world. The campus has an advanced state-of-the art WiFi network that provides high speed connectivity to the institute. The institute offers postgraduate, undergraduate and doctoral level courses for multiple disciplines. Subject to eligibility students can take admission to  these courses on the basis of merit.
